![]() At 6.11 miles take a right at the "T" intersection. Continue straight at the intersection at 5.66 miles. At 5.55 miles you'll leave the fire road and follow the signed Backbone Trail up the narrow foot path. You'll reach Hub Junction at 4.91 miles, which has a portable outhouse, and turn right on the signed Backbone Trail to Rogers Trail. Turn left on the lower road (Eagle Springs Fire Road) with the Backbone Trail sign that leads to Hub Junction. At 3.44 miles you'll come to a junction of fire roads. The trail continues between the corrals and the camp. The camp has a drinking fountain, tables, restrooms and horse corrals. The trail crosses a small paved road on the edge of Musch Camp. Stay left at 2.23 miles following the trail sign. Turn right at the "T" intersection at 2.20 miles. At 1.36 miles turn right off the pavement (there's a drinking fountain on the right) onto the signed Musch Trail toward Musch Camp. Turn left on the paved road at 1.30 miles toward Eagle Rock. 95 mile (there's a chain link fence on the left) and turn left. 31 mile (there was broken sign at this intersection laying on the ground the day I went) continue straight on the main trail which heads downhill and has more steps. 24 mile stay to the right and follow the trail with the block wood steps. Also, beware of poison oak in many areas of the entire hike. There are many unsigned minor trails branching off the main trail in the first half mile. Follow the Deadhorse Trail toward Trippet Ranch. Hiking directions: The trail begins on the east side of the parking lot, and to the right of the restrooms. The parking lot is on the left 0.1 mile farther. From Highway 1, travel 4.7 miles north on Topanga Canyon Boulvard to Entrada Road and turn right. Drive 2.7 miles west to Topanga Canyon Boulvard and turn right. Drive south 1 mile and turn right on Highway 1. Drive 1.4 miles on Sunset Boulvard and turn left on Temescal Canyon Road. To the trailhead: From the parking lot, drive 0.7 mile back to Sunset Boulvard and turn right. If coming from Point Mugu, Temescal Canyon Road is 35.4 from Las Posas Road and Highway 1. There's a $3 charge to park on weekends and holidays. Drive 1.4 miles on Sunset Boulvard and turn left at the entrance to Will Rogers Historic Park. From Highway 1, travel 1 mile north on Temescal Canyon Road and turn right on Sunset Boulvard. From Malibu Canyon Road and Highway 1, drive 10.1 miles east to Temescal Canyon Road and turn left. Restrooms: There is a restroom at both parking areas and on the trail at Musch Camp, which is 2.3 miles from the beginning.ĭirections to trailhead: Driving directions: Leave a shuttle car at the end of the hike. Also, there is a drinking fountain along the trail in Trippet Ranch. Signs: There are many Backbone Trail signs, however not every junction is marked and there are many minor trails at the beginning not marked.ĭogs: Canines are not permitted on trails in state parks.ĭrinking fountains and picnic tables: There are tables and fountains at Musch Camp in Trippet Ranch, and Will Rogers State Historic Park. This hike, along with the first 4 parts, completes the entire Backbone Trail and 64.2 miles.Įlevation gain/loss: Starting elevation is 851 feet, the highest elevation is 2,070 feet and the ending elevation, and the lowest point, is 450 feet. Highlights: Some great views, even on hazy days, of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests mountains, Mount Baldy, the San Fernando Valley, Century City, downtown Los Angeles and Catalina Island.
